After some 6 plus years of using the Robox and the monster Raise3D Pro2 Plus we have decided to invest in a Bambu X1 carbon multi colour printer.
This machine whilst having a smaller print area than the Raise it does have a lot of up to date features to make printing that bit more automatic and fault free. Not only does it have full bed leveling using Lidar it uses the camera and AI to detect if anything goes wrong to cause the dreaded ‘spaghetti’ type of print. It also detects if the filament has jammed on the spool by detecting the rise in current on the filament feed motors. The print speed to considerably faster than the Raise3D and it will do multi colour printing. To achieve this multi colour printing, rather that use multiple heads with the alignment issues this causes, the multi colour printing is done by loading and unloading different filaments from the feeder box at the top, this box also also helps keep the filament dry.
This changing of filaments does mean the print time slows down as the purge, unload and load routines have to run for each colour change, but it does seem to all work flawlessly. I have even had it stop and recover from both an empty spool and a jammed filament without any trauma.
After all this messing about it is time to try some serious printing.
